EU grain harvest in 2026 will be lower than the current one
The EU-27 and UK are forecast to produce 296.7 million tonnes of grain in 2026, down from 306.6 million tonnes in 2025. Wheat output will fall to 143.9 million tonnes as yields ease from last year’s highs, though improved soil moisture and slightly higher plantings support overall crop development.
The total grain harvest in the EU-27 plus the UK in 2026 will amount to 296.7 million tonnes, compared to 306.6 million tonnes in 2025.
This is according to the December forecast from COCERAL, the European trade association for grains, oilseeds, vegetable oils, feed, and livestock.
Wheat production (excluding durum) is expected to reach 143.9 million tonnes, compared to 147.5 million tonnes in 2025. Yields will decline from the high levels seen in 2025, although rainfall in recent months has led to favourable soil moisture conditions, ensuring good crop development in many parts of the EU before winter. Wheat plantings are expected to be slightly higher than last year.
