India allows export of 50,000 MT organic sugar per financial year

India has allowed the export of up to 50,000 MT of organic sugar per financial year, easing previous restrictions. Organic sugar under HS Codes 1701 14 90 and 1701 99 90 can now be exported following Foreign Trade Policy 2023 procedures, with APEDA set to outline specific export modalities.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification allowing the export of organic sugar with a specific ceiling for the per financial year.

According to Notification, the government has permitted the export of 50,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of organic sugar per financial year.

This decision comes as a partial modification of Notification No. 36/2023 dated October 18, 2023.
As per the revised policy, organic sugar under HS Codes 1701 14 90 and 1701 99 90, which was previously under the ‘Restricted’ category, is now allowed for export with immediate effect. However, this is subject to an overall export ceiling of 50,000 MT per financial year.

The export will be carried out as per the procedure prescribed under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023. Additionally, the modalities for these exports will be prescribed by the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
