Myanmar to restart maize exports to Thailand with zero duty from February 1
Myanmar will resume maize exports to Thailand under a zero-tariff scheme from February 1 to August 31. Shipments will move via approved maritime routes. Maize exports earn over USD 500 million annually, with 65% of production exported and strong export values maintained in recent years.
Myanmar’s maize exports to Thailand under a zero-tariff scheme will resume on February 1, according to the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association. Thailand allows maize imports with zero duty (using Form D) between February 1 and August 31.
Shipments will be carried out via the Yangon–Bangkok, Kawthoung–Ranong, and Tachilek–Meisai maritime routes. The Myawady trade channel, previously in use, is currently suspended.
Maize exports generate over USD 500 million annually for Myanmar. The country has more than one million acres of maize farms, with domestic consumption accounting for around 35% of total production, while the remaining 65% is designated for export.
In the 2023/24 financial year, maize exports amounted to over USD 500 million, over USD 400 million in 2024/25, and more than USD 400 million has already been exported in the current 2025/26 financial year.
