Palm oil production shows record figures – USDA

Global palm oil production is set to hit a record 80.7 million tonnes in 2025/26, driven by higher output in Indonesia and Malaysia. Rising supply will meet growing demand, with consumption seen at 77.7 million tonnes. Exports and ending stocks are also expected to increase, signaling a well-supplied global vegetable oil market.

According to the latest data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global palm oil production in 2025/26 will reach a record high of 80.7 million tonnes, up 3% from the previous year.

The estimate is based mainly on expected increases in production in Malaysia and Indonesia. Despite a significant decline in production in Malaysia due to seasonal factors, the USDA currently forecasts 20.2 million tonnes, 820,000 tonnes more than last year. Production in Indonesia is expected to increase by 1.2 million tonnes compared to the previous year to reach 46.7 million tonnes.

The agency notes that trade in palm oil has also increased in recent years. An estimated 45.6 million tonnes of this tropical oil are expected to be shipped across the world’s oceans in the 2025/26 marketing year, up 1% from the previous year’s 45.3 million tonnes.

Global consumption is expected to increase by around 4% from the previous season, to 77.7 million tonnes, and is likely to be fully met by global production. Stocks are also forecast to increase by just over 4% by the end of the marketing season to around 15.3 million tonnes.
