Bihar to introduce new incentive policy to boost sugar industry
Bihar plans to introduce a Draft Incentive Policy 2026 to boost the sugar industry and increase farmers’ income. The state aims to reopen closed mills and establish 25 new sugar factories over the next five years, promoting sugarcane cultivation, attracting investment and creating employment opportunities in the sector.
Patna: The state government will soon unveil a Draft Incentive Policy 2026 to promote sugar industry, said Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday, The Times of India reported.
Speaking at a seminar organised by the state’s sugarcane industry department, Choudhary said the government plans to support the sector through incentives. He said the main objective is to increase farmers’ income by encouraging sugarcane cultivation and expanding the sugar industry, while also creating employment opportunities for the youth within the state. He added that the government is committed to opening 25 sugar mills in the next five years.
Sugarcane industry minister Sanjay Paswan said both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are focused on strengthening the sugar sector in Bihar.
Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit said industrial development remains a key priority for the state government. He noted that Bihar has planned to reopen closed sugar mills and set up 25 new units to attract investment, create jobs and strengthen economic growth.
More than 700 farmers and around 100 scientists attended the seminar on its opening day. Participants discussed new technologies and possible measures to increase sugarcane production in the state.
