The Centre has approved Telangana’s proposal to procure 1.26 lakh tonnes of gram, urad, groundnut and sunflower worth over ₹894 crore under the MSP-based Price Support Scheme for the Rabi 2026 season, aiming to protect farmers from price volatility and ensure fair returns.

New Delhi: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved a proposal from the Government of Telangana for the procurement of crops worth over Rs 894 crore at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Rabi 2026 season, according to a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau.

Under the proposal, a total of 1,25,855 metric tonnes (MT) of crops will be procured through the Price Support Scheme (PSS). The procurement will include 29,860 MT of gram, 37,020 MT of urad, 55,285 MT of groundnut and 3,690 MT of sunflower.

Chouhan said the Centre aims to protect farmers from market fluctuations and ensure they receive the full value for their produce. He added that the decision will help farmers in Telangana get better prices and encourage the production of pulses and oilseeds.

He said the Centre is working to ensure that farmers across the country receive proper recognition and fair value for their hard work.

The Union minister also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is focusing on increasing farmers’ income, strengthening the agriculture sector and boosting the rural economy.

He noted that the decision will provide relief and economic security to farmers by preventing distress sales of their produce at very low prices.

The move is expected to directly benefit farmers cultivating gram, urad, groundnut and sunflower in Telangana and support stability and growth in the state’s agriculture sector.
