Jordan holds wheat reserves sufficient for over 5 months

Jordan has wheat reserves sufficient for more than five months of domestic consumption, with additional supplies already contracted and in transit. The government is maintaining export restrictions on key food commodities to protect strategic stocks and ensure stable food supply amid regional disruptions.

Jordan’s current wheat reserves are sufficient to cover domestic demand for more than five months. This was stated by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply during a parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee meeting, where the focus was on the state of supply chains and measures to ensure their sustainability.

According to the minister, existing wheat stocks cover 5.5 months of consumption, with additional supplies equivalent to four months already contracted and in transit. Animal feed reserves are also at comfortable levels, sufficient for roughly eight months.

The government continues its policy of protecting the domestic market: since last November, the export of key food commodities without prior ministry approval has been prohibited to safeguard strategic reserves and prevent shortages amid regional developments.

Authorities also confirmed that there are no plans to increase taxes or customs duties on goods due to rising transport costs or changes in logistics routes. The main goal remains ensuring stable supply and maintaining adequate food security across the country.
