Azerbaijan has significantly increased its wheat purchases

Azerbaijan’s wheat imports surged in January, rising 50% in volume and 54% in value year-on-year to 129,933 tonnes. Imports from Russia tripled, while purchases from Kazakhstan declined. The shift highlights changing sourcing patterns and increased reliance on Russian wheat to meet domestic demand.

In January of this year, Azerbaijan imported 129,933 tons of wheat worth $28.87 million.

According to Report calculations based on data from the State Statistics Committee, this represents a 54% increase in value and a 50% increase in quantity compared to the same period in 2025.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan purchased 83,613 tons of wheat from Russia (an increase of 3 times) worth $18.97 million (a threefold increase compared to the previous year) and 46,320 tons from Kazakhstan (a decrease of 21%) worth $9.9 million (a decrease of 19%).

In 2025, of the 1,267,322 tons of wheat imported to Azerbaijan, 52.26% came from Kazakhstan and 47.73% from Russia.
