Syria has become the main hub for purchasing stolen Ukrainian grain
Syria has emerged as a key hub for grain shipments from Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories, replacing Egypt as the primary destination. Reports indicate regular vessel traffic between occupied ports and Syria, highlighting a sustained and expanding trade flow despite earlier disruptions linked to political changes in the region.
Syria has become the main hub for the purchase of grain exported by Russia from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This was told to Latifundist.com by Kateryna Yaresko, a journalist with the SeaKrime investigative project of the Myrotvorets Center.
According to her, Egypt was previously considered the key destination for such grain, but now the situation has changed.
“We previously wrote about Egypt as the main hub for such grain — now the situation is different. Syria has come to the fore,” she noted.
Yaresko emphasized that the supplies are systemic. According to monitoring data, ships regularly travel from occupied Ukrainian ports to Syrian ones.
“If you open MarineTraffic, you can see a large number of grain carriers going from occupied ports to Syria. These are no longer isolated cases, but constant traffic. And this is happening right now,” the expert explained.
After the change of power in Syria, supplies temporarily stopped, but later resumed and increased in volume again, Jaresko added.
