Punjab : Only 29% of procured wheat cleared from mandis

Punjab has received 72% of expected wheat arrivals (87.89 LMT of 122 LMT), with 95.5% already procured. However, lifting lags at 29% (24.31 LMT), leaving 3.95 LMT unsold, highlighting logistical bottlenecks despite strong procurement progress.

Bathinda: Nearly 72% of the estimated wheat has arrived in Punjab’s purchase centers as of Friday evening. Out of the total 122 lakh metric tonnes (MT) expected this season, 87.89 lakh MT has already reached the markets, with 95.5% of the arrived grain already purchased by various agencies.

While procurement remains swift, the lifting of purchased grain continues to lag. Only 24.31 lakh MT—roughly 29% of the procured wheat—has been moved out of the markets so far. On Friday alone, 4.45 lakh MT was lifted.

Total procurement has now reached 83.94 lakh MT, leaving approximately 3.95 lakh MT of wheat currently unsold in the yards.
