Chandigarh: The Centre has provided major relief to Punjab farmers ahead of the 2026-27 rabi season by approving a proposal worth ₹50 crore for subsidies on certified wheat seeds, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon said on Friday.
In a statement, Dhillon said Union agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had personally informed him of the decision through a letter. He said the assistance would be provided under the Seed Component of the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM).
“The timely decision will enable farmers to access high-quality wheat seeds at subsidised rates ahead of the rabi sowing season,” Dhillon said.
He further stated that the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains committed to extending all possible support to improve the economic well-being of Punjab’s farmers, strengthen their livelihoods and promote the overall development of the state’s agricultural sector.
“The central govt is firmly committed to providing all assistance and cooperation required for the welfare of Punjab’s farming community and the growth of agriculture in the state,” Dhillon said.
