Saudi Arabia awards third wheat import contract this year, totaling 985,000 tons
General Authority for Food Security awarded a 985,000-ton wheat import contract to boost strategic reserves. Sourced globally, shipments will arrive via 16 vessels between June–August 2026, supporting milling demand and ensuring supply stability through diversified sourcing and competitive international procurement.
The General Authority for Food Security has finalized the awarding of the third wheat import contract for this year (2026), totaling 985,000 tons, to be sourced from the European Union, North and South America, Australia, and the Black Sea region.
Engineer Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Fares, Chairman of the Authority, explained in a statement today that this contract is part of the efforts to strengthen the strategic wheat reserves, maintain them at safe levels, and meet all the needs of milling companies.
He added that the branches of the National Grain Supply Company (SABL) will receive the contracted quantities for the third batch scheduled to arrive during the period (June – August 2026) in the form of (16) ships, distributed as follows: (6) ships to Jeddah Islamic Port with a quantity of (370) thousand tons, (8) ships to Yanbu Commercial Port with a quantity of (505) thousand tons, and two ships to Jazan Port with a quantity of (110) thousand tons. (13) qualified international companies specializing in grain trading competed for the required quantity, and the contract was awarded to (4) companies whose offers were the lowest in price and conformed to the specifications.
