Al Dahra, Egypt’s GASC sign wheat supply agreement
Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s GASC have signed a five-year, $500 million wheat supply agreement under a financing programme supported by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The deal aims to ensure reliable wheat supplies for Egypt, which is projected to import 12.5 million tonnes of wheat in 2026-27.
EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT — Al Dahra Agriculture Trading (ADAT) and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) signed a five-year wheat supply agreement valued at $500 million that advances a strategic commitment to an operational arrangement under a partnership initially established in 2023.
ADAT is part of Al Dahra Holding, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and a global agribusiness focused on sustainable food and feed production.
Signed at the Cabinet of Ministers Headquarters in El Alamein, Egypt, on Aug. 26, the agreement establishes the operational framework through which imported wheat will be supplied to GASC under the existing financing program supported by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX).
The signing ceremony was attended by Sherif Mohamed Farouk, PhD, minister of Supply and Internal Trade and chairman of GASC, and Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra.
ADEX, for its part, reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging innovative financing solutions as a practical and effective tool to facilitate trade and strengthen economic cooperation. By facilitating the reliable and sustainable supply of wheat from Al Dahra to Egypt, ADEX will be strengthening trade between the two countries while supporting UAE exports and expanding their presence in global markets.
The agreement builds on Al Dahra’s experience in supporting large-scale supply requirements through its global agricultural platform. Operating in more than 40 markets worldwide, and with an established presence in Egypt since 2007, the company combines farming, production, processing and supply chain capabilities to provide customers with dependable access to essential food and feed products.
“The signing reflects the depth of agricultural cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Egypt and underscores the value of long-term partnerships built on operational delivery, continuity of supply, and shared commitment to sustainable agricultural development,” Al Dahra said.
In a recent report, the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture projected Egypt’s wheat imports for marketing year 2026-27 at 12.5 million tonnes, a 1.6% decrease from the previous year due to a forecasted increase in domestic production at 9.8 million tonnes.
Egypt, with a population of about 120 million, is perennially the world’s largest importer of wheat. Total consumption of wheat in 2026-27 is expected to reach 20.3 million tonnes.
