China-Myanmar B2B pact to boost rice export to China

Myanmar and China are set to establish a B2B pact to boost rice exports, with seed trials and cooperation led by Chinese firms. The initiative aims to enhance production, improve seed quality, and strengthen bilateral agricultural trade and supply chains.

Myanmar and China will soon establish a Business-to-Business (B2B) pact to boost rice export, said Myanmar’s Commercial Attaché in Kunming, China.

Guokee Bio-Tech Company Limited from Yunnan Province, China, in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agricultural Research, has been implementing trials to improve agricultural seeds, including rice, corn and secure pedigree seeds.

Guokee Bio-Tech Company showed willingness to sign a B2B Memorandum of Understanding with a rice exporting company from Myanmar. They will provide seeds and persuade farmers to grow them. The rice milling process will be conducted in Myanmar. Guokee Bio-Tech Company will import the rice to Myanmar.

China has adopted a new Export to China policy to encourage imports and to meet domestic consumption, according to officials from the Yunnan Provincial Department of Commerce in China.

At present, that company is carrying out a trial run for four varieties of lowland paddy seeds (Yar 8, UPLRi, ZKMUR-5, and M20) in Nay Pyi Taw. These rice varieties are already registered with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).
