Uttar Pradesh records Rs 3.21 lakh crore sugarcane payments in 9 years

Uttar Pradesh raised sugarcane prices by ₹30 per quintal for the 2025-26 crushing season, boosting farmer payments by around ₹3,000 crore. Timely payments and expanded crushing capacity strengthened incomes for 48 lakh farming families while supporting jobs and growth across the state’s rural economy.

The state government also raised sugarcane prices for the 2025–26 crushing season, increasing rates by Rs 30 per quintal. The new prices have been fixed at Rs 400 per quintal for early varieties and Rs 390 per quintal for general varieties. This increase has resulted in an additional payment of around Rs 3,000 crore to farmers.

Officials said timely payments have strengthened the financial condition of nearly 48 lakh sugarcane farming families across the state.

Sugarcane Commissioner Ministi S. said the achievement was the result of consistent efforts and has contributed to the state’s broader economic growth. He noted that the sector is playing a role in supporting Uttar Pradesh’s goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.

He added that timely payment to farmers remains a top priority for the government and has helped improve living standards and financial stability among growers.

The coordinated efforts of the sugarcane department and the sugar industry have helped Uttar Pradesh emerge as the leading sugarcane-producing state in the country. The sector has also developed into one of the largest rural economic systems, generating around 10 lakh direct and indirect jobs.

Revival of closed sugar mills, setting up of new units, and an increase of 1,28,500 tonnes crushing capacity per day have created fresh employment opportunities. In addition, related sectors such as transport, farm machinery, tractors, fertilizers, seeds, and other support industries are providing jobs to a large number of people.
