India’s wheat procurement for 2026-27 hits 30.15 million tons

India’s 2026-27 wheat procurement reached 30.15 million tonnes, up 3% year-on-year, nearing the 34.5 million-tonne target. Relaxed quality norms aided rain-hit farmers. Haryana procurement surged 20% to 8.46 million tonnes, Punjab collected 12.16 million tonnes, while Bihar recorded a sharp 76% increase.

India’s wheat procurement for the 2026-27 season just hit 30.15 million tons, bringing the country closer to its goal of 34.5 million tons.

This is a solid comeback after a slow start and marks about 3% growth compared with last year.

Relaxed norms boost state wheat procurement

Relaxed quality norms made it easier for farmers to sell wheat affected by unseasonal rains and hailstorms.

Punjab saw a small bump, collecting 12.16 million tons, while Haryana went above and beyond with a 20% jump to 8.46 million tons, well past its target.

Madhya Pradesh narrowed its shortfall this month; Uttar Pradesh improved slightly, and Bihar pulled off an impressive 76% increase in procurement this season.

Daily arrivals are still low in most states, but Madhya Pradesh has narrowed its shortfall this month.
