Sugar mills should set up their own ethanol retail pumps, says Gadkari
Nitin Gadkari urged sugar mills to shift focus from sugar production to ethanol and biofuel businesses, saying sugar alone is no longer profitable. He announced plans for higher-ethanol vehicles, promoted ethanol-powered farm machinery, and encouraged farmers to adopt bioenergy, hydrogen fuel, AI, and “waste-to-wealth” technologies.
Bhuinj: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that sugar mill owners must move beyond relying solely on sugar production and instead ramp up ethanol manufacturing. He stated that making profits from sugar production alone is no longer viable, and that in the coming years, sugar mill owners should set up their own ethanol retail pumps.
Gadkari was speaking at the Kisan Veer factory premises, where he was presented with the Deshbhakt Abasaheb Veer Krutagnyata Award by former Legislative Council Chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar. The event was also attended by Relief and Rehabilitation Minister and Kisan Veer factory Chairman Makarand Patil, Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale, Members of Parliament Udayanraje Bhosale and Nitin Patil, former minister Balasaheb Patil, Prabhakar Gharge, Pramod Shinde, and other dignitaries, Sakal reported.
Gadkari said that farmers are not merely providers of food but also of energy, and the time has come for them to be recognized as providers of fuel as well. He added that on the upcoming World Environment Day, vehicles running on 80 percent ethanol will be launched in the market, and that automobile manufacturers have been directed to develop vehicles capable of running on 100 percent ethanol in the future. He also noted that if farm machinery is run on ethanol or bio compressed natural gas, it will significantly reduce the cost of agricultural production. Going forward, he stressed, artificial intelligence technology must be embraced in the agricultural sector to drive the industry onto a path of growth.
Speaking at the outset, factory Chairman Makarand Patil said it was their good fortune that a personality of the stature of Nitin Gadkari graced the occasion and received an award so befitting of him. Public Works Minister Shivendra Sinharaje Bhosale said that the scale of Gadkari’s work and his vision for development have been experienced firsthand by the state’s public works department, and expressed confidence that Gadkari would pay special attention to his and Makarand Patil’s constituencies while developing highways across the country. Factory Vice Chairman Pramod Shinde extended the welcome address, and Director Dilip Pisal offered the vote of thanks.
Embrace Waste into Wealth
Gadkari also advised the farmers present that hydrogen is the fuel of the future, and if its price can be brought down to 100 rupees, India could become a fuel exporter rather than an importer. He said that saving money from leaving the country is true patriotism, and urged farmers to embrace the concept of turning waste into wealth, which would go a long way in improving their standard of living.
