Vietnam: BSR ramps up E10 biofuel production, targets up to 100,000 cubic metres monthly supply

Vietnam’s BSR plans to supply 80,000-100,000 cubic metres of E10RON95 biofuel monthly as demand rises. Dung Quat Refinery will boost production to full capacity, supported by integrated ethanol blending infrastructure, expanded maritime distribution, and focus on cleaner, sustainable fuel alternatives

The Petrovietnam Refining and Petrochemical Corporation (BSR) has announced plans to supply between 80,000 and 100,000 cubic metres of E10RON95 biofuel petrol every month as demand for E10 fuel continues to grow in Vietnam.

The company said production will be supported by the Dung Quat Refinery, which is currently operating at an optimal level to manufacture petroleum products, including E10RON95 petrol produced by blending RON95 gasoline with fuel ethanol, Vietnam Global reported.

According to Le Hai Tuan, the refinery is presently running at 75-80 percent of its capacity. Production is expected to rise to around 90 percent in June before reaching full capacity in the coming months.

A key advantage for BSR is the direct integration between the ethanol supply system of the Dung Quat biofuel plant and the refinery’s blending infrastructure. This setup creates a seamless production chain for biofuel manufacturing.

Under this arrangement, Vietnam Central Biofuels Joint Stock Company is responsible for supplying ethanol from the Dung Quat biofuel plant, while BSR receives the ethanol and blends it with base petrol to produce E10 biofuel that meets current quality standards before distribution.

The company recently completed the blending of approximately 18,000 cubic metres of E10RON95 petrol, which was subsequently certified as meeting required quality specifications.

To support increasing production volumes, BSR is also expanding its distribution network through both road and maritime transport. The move is aimed at improving delivery efficiency and ensuring wider availability of E10 fuel for customers.

On May 20, the company successfully delivered its first sea-borne shipment of E10 biofuel petrol, transporting 12,000 cubic metres to distributor Thanh Le Import-Export Corporation.

Tuan said the expansion of E10 distribution through maritime transport would help increase sales volumes while demonstrating BSR’s ability to respond quickly to rising demand for cleaner and more environmentally friendly fuel alternatives.

The production increase reflects Vietnam’s growing focus on biofuels as part of broader efforts to promote sustainable energy use and reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
