Government fixes 22.5 LMT monthly sugar quota for domestic sale in June 2026
India’s Food Ministry has kept the June 2026 sugar sales quota unchanged at 22.5 lakh metric tonnes, lower than April’s 23 LMT allocation. With crushing season over and monsoon approaching, the government is closely monitoring consumption trends. Stable demand expectations and cautious supply management are likely to keep domestic sugar prices range-bound.
In an announcement on May 26, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for June 2026, which is equal to the quota allocated for May 2026 but lower to quota allocated for April 2026 which was 23 LMT.
In June 2025, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 23 LMT for domestic sale.
According to market experts, the same amount of sugar allocation by the Government for June 2026 compared to the previous month is keeping in mind that the sugar demand is likely to remain same amid the ongoing war situation in West Asia and beginning of rainy season. The sugar consumption usually peaks during April and May, before the monsoon starts. The market is expected to remain range-bound with this quota announcement.
The sugar mills have closed crushing operations; hence the Government is cautiously watching the sugar consumption trend in the country.
