Maharashtra sugar mills clear 99% of FRP dues for 2025-26 season, Rs 396 crore still outstanding
Maharashtra sugar mills paid 99.02% of 2025-26 FRP dues by June 15, disbursing Rs 40,050 crore against Rs 40,446 crore payable. Of 210 mills, 154 cleared dues fully, while previous-season arrears remained at Rs 236.49 crore across 53 mills.
Maharashtra’s sugar mills had paid out nearly all of their Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) obligations to cane farmers for the 2025-26 crushing season as of June 15, 2026, with actual FRP payments reaching 99.02 per cent of the total amount due, according to a fortnightly report of the Commissionerate of Sugar, Maharashtra State.
The report showed that 210 factories participated in crushing during the season, together processing 1,045.63 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane.
The total gross FRP payable, including harvesting and transport (H&T) charges, stood at Rs 40,446 crore. Excluding H&T, the net FRP payable was Rs 30,278 crore. Against these obligations, mills had paid Rs 40,050 crore in actual FRP including H&T, leaving actual FRP arrears of Rs 396 crore. On an inclusive basis, total FRP paid including H&T amounted to Rs 41,220 crore, which represented 101.91 per cent of the gross FRP payable — reflecting the fact that several mills paid cane bills at rates higher than the basic FRP.
Of the 210 factories, 154 had cleared 100 per cent of their FRP dues. A further 49 factories had paid between 80 and 99.99 per cent of their obligations. Three factories had paid between 60 and 79.99 per cent, while four factories had settled less than 60 per cent of dues. In all, 56 factories carried outstanding balances. Revenue Recovery Certificates (RRC) had been issued against seven factories as of the reporting date.
The report also carried Statement B, detailing previous season FRP arrears as on June 15, 2026. Cumulative pending dues from earlier seasons across 53 mills on the list totalled Rs 31,517.56 lakh, with Rs 7,868.76 lakh recovered during the year, leaving a balance of Rs 23,648.80 lakh still outstanding across prior seasons.
