France is preparing to ship wheat to Egypt, potentially signaling a further shift by importers toward alternative origins amid disruptions to supplies from the Black Sea region. According to traders, two vessels are expected to arrive at the French port of La Pallice in the coming days to load wheat for Egyptian buyers.
The bulk carriers Nana Leen and Genoa are expected to arrive at La Pallice on August 30. Each vessel can load around 30 thsd tons of wheat, bringing the combined potential volume of the two cargoes to about 60 thsd tons.
Details of the deals have not been disclosed, but traders believe the shipments could partially replace Russian or Ukrainian wheat. France has supplied wheat to Egypt before, although larger Panamax vessels have typically been used for such shipments.
The renewed French shipments come amid mounting disruptions to Black Sea grain logistics. With exports from Ukraine and Russia facing difficulties, traditional buyers of Black Sea wheat are increasingly looking to alternative origins.
Meanwhile, another vessel is loading French wheat in northern France for shipment to Sudan. According to traders, it will be the first French wheat cargo to Sudan in 18 years, providing another indication that traditional grain trade flows may be shifting amid disruptions to Black Sea supplies.
