USDA: Ethanol exports reach 190 million gallons in May
The U.S. exported 189.65 million gallons of ethanol and 1.08 million metric tons of distillers grains in May, with both volumes increasing from the previous month and a year earlier. Higher shipments boosted export values, reflecting continued strong international demand for U.S. biofuel and feed products.
The U.S. exported 189.65 million gallons of ethanol and 1.08 million metric tons of distillers grains in May, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on July 7. Exports of both products were up when compared to the previous month and May 2025.
The 189.65 million gallons of ethanol exported in May was up nearly 11% when compared to the 171.62 million gallons exported in April and up nearly 5% when compared to the 181.46 million gallons exported in May of last year.
The U.S. exported ethanol to more than 40 countries in May. Canada was the top destination for U.S. ethanol exports at 76.28 million gallons, followed by the Netherlands at 31.82 million gallons and Nigeria at 12.74 million gallons.
The value of U.S. ethanol exports reached $541.16 million in May, up from $404.47 million in April and $396.11 million in May 2025.
Total ethanol exports for the first five months of 2026 reached 1 billion gallons at a value of $2.26 billion, compared to 902 million gallons exported during the same period of 2025 at a value of $1.9 billion.
The 1.08 million metric tons of distillers grains exported in May was up nearly 6% when compared to the 1.02 million metric tons of distillers grains exported in April and up nearly 19% when compared to the 912,427 metric tons exported in May of last year.
The U.S. exported distillers grains to nearly three dozen countries in May. Mexico was the top destination for U.S. distillers grains exports at 210,925 metric tons, followed by South Korea at 138,272 metric tons and Indonesia at 136,543 metric tons.
The value of U.S. distillers grains exports reached $271.83 million in May, up from $257.75 million in April and $212.37 million in May 2025.
Total distillers grains exports for the first five months of the year reached 5.06 million metric tons at a value of $1.26 billion, compared to 4.45 million metric tons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $1.07 billion.
