Bihar to revive three closed sugar mills, says Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary
Bihar will revive the closed Gopalganj, Sakri and Raiyam sugar mills, with an MoU to be signed soon with a central agency, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said. The move aims to boost sugarcane crushing capacity, farmer incomes, employment and regional economic growth.
Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday announced that the state government will soon revive three closed sugar mills in Gopalganj, Sakri and Raiyam as part of its efforts to strengthen the sugar sector and boost rural employment.
Speaking in the Legislative Council while replying to a question raised by MLC Shashi Yadav, Choudhary said the government would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a central government agency to facilitate the reopening of the three mills, Jagran reported.
“The government is working to restart the closed sugar mills, and operations at the Gopalganj, Sakri and Raiyam mills will begin soon,” he said.
The revival of the mills is expected to benefit sugarcane farmers by creating additional crushing capacity and improving market access for their produce. The move is also expected to generate employment and stimulate economic activity in the surrounding regions.
The announcement comes as Bihar seeks to revive its sugar industry by bringing defunct mills back into operation and encouraging investment in the sector.
During the Legislative Council proceedings, Choudhary also said the government would hold discussions with the Panchayati Raj Department and the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) on issues related to the maintenance of the state’s tap water supply scheme, following demands from members to entrust the responsibility to ward representatives.
He assured the House that the government would consider the suggestions made by members before taking a decision.
