Maharashtra : 39 sugar mills yet to clear Rs 256 crore FRP dues
Maharashtra sugar mills have ₹256 crore in pending FRP dues to sugarcane farmers despite the completion of the 2025-26 crushing season. Of the 210 participating mills, 171 cleared 100% of their dues, while 39 mills remain in default, prompting recovery proceedings by the Sugar Commissionerate.
Pune: Sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra are yet to receive Rs 256 crore in Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) dues, with 39 sugar factories still pending payments despite the completion of the 2025-26 crushing season.
According to the Sugar Commissionerate’s report as of July 31, 2026, 171 of the 210 sugar factories that participated in the season have cleared 100% of their FRP dues. Overall, the state’s sugar mills have paid 99.37% of the amount payable to farmers.
During the 2025-26 season, sugar mills in the state crushed 10.45 LMT of sugarcane. The total FRP payable to farmers, including harvesting and transportation charges, was Rs 40,446 crore. Sugar mills have so far deposited Rs 40,190 crore into the bank accounts of sugarcane growers, leaving Rs 256 crore outstanding.
The Sugar Commissionerate said it is pursuing recovery of the pending dues from the defaulting factories.
In a bid to recover the outstanding payments, the Commissionerate initiated Revenue Recovery Certificate (RRC) proceedings against 10 sugar factories that failed to pay FRP within the stipulated period.
Thirty-four factories had paid between 80 and 99.99 per cent of dues, two factories had paid between 60 and 79.99 per cent, and three factories had paid less than 60 per cent, taking the total number of factories with pending dues to 39, the report showed.
