Telangana : CM Revanth Reddy warns defaulting rice millers
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ordered intensified recovery of dues from defaulting rice millers who diverted grain or failed to deliver custom milled rice. He warned against blackmail and said allocations to chronic defaulters could be given to women’s self-help groups, alongside a decade-long procurement audit.
Hyderabad: Cracking the whip on defaulting rice millers who either diverted grain or owe thousands of crores in unpaid dues to the state government, instead of delivering agreed quantity of custom milled rice, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has on Wednesday ordered officials to intensify the recovery of the entire dues owed by errant millers. Warning that blackmail by rice millers would not be tolerated, the Chief Minister indicated that grain allocations meant for chronic defaulters would instead be handed to women’s self-help groups.
For context, the state government procures paddy from farmers via Paddy Procurement Centers and hands it to local millers for processing into custom milled rice (CMR). Following reports of millers’ corrupt practices during the erstwhile Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime and under the present dispensation, the state government recently ordered a decade-long audit and cracked down on defaulting millers.
The government initiated a comprehensive audit covering operations, pending recoveries, and vigilance cases dating back to 2014 to fix accountability in the procurement chain.
