Ghee and Cooking Oil Shortage Threat Rises Across Pakistan
Pakistan’s edible oil tanker strike could disrupt supplies of ghee and cooking oil, potentially causing shortages, the Edible Oil Tankers Association warned. Chairman Bakhtawar Khan urged the government to resolve weight restrictions affecting 10-wheeler tankers, which can carry around 60 tonnes, to restore uninterrupted transportation.
Bakhtawar Khan, Chairman of the Edible Oil Tankers Association, warned that if the tanker strike continues, the transportation of edible oil to different parts of the country could come to a halt, potentially causing shortages of ghee and cooking oil. He said that if the uninterrupted transportation of edible oil does not resume, its availability in the market could be affected. He urged the government to immediately resolve the problems faced by the tankers so that the supply chain can return to normal.
Bakhtawar Khan said that a 10-wheeler edible-oil tanker has a capacity of approximately 60 tonnes, but transporters are currently facing difficulties because of restrictions related to the weight carried by these tankers. He demanded that 10-wheeler tankers be allowed to carry the permitted weight according to their designated capacity.
The Chairman of the Edible Oil Tankers Association said that it is essential to resolve the issues between tanker owners and the relevant authorities. He warned that if their demands are not accepted, the strike will continue.
Ghee and edible oil are among the basic commodities used in everyday life in the country. If the tanker strike continues for a prolonged period, there are concerns that their transportation and availability could be affected.
