Government allows sugar mills to sell October production in October and November over and above monthly quotas
The central government has allowed sugar mills to sell their entire October 2026 sugar production during October and November, over and above regular monthly release quotas. The directive provides mills greater flexibility to market fresh sugar during the 2026-27 crushing season without affecting allocated sales quantities.
New Delhi: The central government has allowed sugar mills to sell the entire quantity of sugar produced during October 2026 in October and November 2026, over and above their regular monthly release quotas for the two months.
In a communication dated October 16, the Department of Food and Public Distribution, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, reiterated the permission already communicated through the monthly stockholding orders for October.
According to the directive, sugar mills can sell their October production across the two months without adjusting the quantity against their regular monthly release allocations.
For instance, a mill producing 1,000 metric tonnes of sugar during October can sell the entire quantity in October and November in addition to the quantities allocated under the respective monthly release quotas, the Ministry explained in the release.
The latest order, issued by Director (Sugar and Vegetable Oils) Arvind Kumar Rawat, provides mills with additional flexibility to market fresh production during the ongoing 2026-27 crushing season without affecting their regular monthly sales allocations.
