DGFT extends deadline for duty-free raw sugar imports by two months

India has extended the deadline for duty-free imports of 10 lakh metric tonnes of raw sugar under the Tariff Rate Quota scheme from October 31 to December 31, 2026. The DGFT notification provides importers additional time, while keeping the permitted import quantity and other conditions unchanged.

The Government of India has extended the deadline for duty-free imports of 10 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of raw sugar under the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) scheme by two months, that is, till December 31, 2026, providing importers additional time to bring in the permitted quantity.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, announced the extension through Notification No. 45/2026-27 dated October 19, 2026.

Under the revised import policy, the deadline for importing raw sugar classified under Exim Code 170114 has been extended from October 31, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The government had earlier permitted duty-free imports of 10 lakh MT of raw sugar under the TRQ through Notification No. 31/2025-26 dated August 20, 2026.

The latest notification amends the existing import policy condition, extending the validity of the duty-free import window. All other conditions specified in the August notification will remain unchanged.

The amendment has been issued under the provisions of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, and the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, with the approval of the Commerce and Industry Minister.

The extension gives importers an additional two months to utilise the allocated TRQ quantity, while the overall duty-free import limit remains unchanged at 10 lakh MT.
