USDA Attaché Forecasts Argentina Corn Production at 62 Million Tonnes in 2026/27

Argentina’s 2026/27 corn production is forecast at 62 million tonnes, above the USDA’s official estimate of 55 million, with exports projected at 43 million tonnes. Wheat production is estimated at 23 million tonnes, but strong El Niño conditions could disrupt harvesting; exports are forecast at 17 million tonnes.

Argentina is expected to harvest 62 million metric tonnes of corn in the 2026/27 crop year, according to a report dated Friday, Oct. 23, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) agricultural attaché in Buenos Aires.

According to Datamar data, Argentina’s containerized corn exports rose 59.5% from the previous year.

The unofficial forecast, released through the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), is above the department’s latest official projection of 55 million tonnes for Argentina’s 2026/27 corn crop.

“With forecasts pointing to a strong El Niño event and soil moisture currently abundant across most growing regions, farmers are increasing the share of early-planted corn relative to late-planted corn,” the report said.

“Under normal weather conditions in Argentina’s main corn-producing region, early-planted corn generally yields more than corn planted later in the season,” it added.

Argentina Corn Production and Export Outlook

The attaché’s report also forecast Argentine corn exports at 43 million tonnes in 2026/27, above the USDA’s official projection of 38 million tonnes.

For wheat, the attaché estimated Argentina’s 2026/27 production at 23 million tonnes, compared with the USDA’s official forecast of 21.5 million tonnes.

However, “with much of the wheat harvest still ahead, industry contacts are increasingly concerned that an exceptionally strong El Niño could bring unfavorable weather conditions and disrupt harvesting operations,” the report said.

The attaché also forecast Argentina’s wheat exports at 17 million tonnes in 2026/27, above the USDA’s official estimate of 16 million tonnes.
