China’s early season rice harvesting has completed 28.7%, faster than last year – state media
China’s early rice harvesting progress has reached 28.7%, 0.7% faster than last year, state media CCTV said.
An estimated 280,000 combine harvesters will be working the rice fields, state media said.
Southern China has experienced consecutive high temperatures and heavy rains during the rice flowering season this year.
At the end of June, China’s agriculture ministry and the meteorological administration jointly warned that heavy rain may wash off pollen from flowering rice plants, which could be leading to a decline in rice yields.
