Bangladesh : Govt committed to keep rice prices stable: State Minister
Bangladesh’s government reaffirmed its commitment to stabilising rice prices through regular market monitoring and action against illegal stockpilers. It also plans to distribute subsidised rice digitally using the Food-Friendly Programme database, aiming to improve transparency, efficiency and timely delivery of food assistance to ultra-poor households.
State Minister for Food Md. Abdul Bari on Tuesday said in Jatiya Sangsad that the government is firmly committed to maintaining stability in rice prices in the market and is conducting regular market monitoring to achieve this goal.
The state minister said this in Parliament while responding to a written question tabled by ruling party lawmaker Md. Fazle Huda from Naogaon-3 constituency.
He said action is being taken against illegal stockpilers and those attempting to destabilise the market.
Abdul Bari also informed the House that the government plans to distribute food-friendly rice through a digital system using the Food-Friendly Programme database to ensure the timely delivery of rice allocated for the ultra-poor.
He also expressed hope that the initiative would enhance transparency and efficiency in the distribution process.
