Bangladesh : Govt halves aromatic rice export quota to ensure domestic supply

The government has halved approved aromatic rice export quotas for 278 institutions to safeguard domestic supply, ensure food security and contain potential price pressures. The revised allocations take immediate effect and will remain valid until December 31, 2026, covering exporters of all sizes.

In a move aimed at maintaining domestic supply, ensuring food security and containing potential price pressures in the local market, the government has cut the approved quota for aromatic rice exports by 50 per cent.

According to a notification issued on Tuesday by the Export-2 branch of the Ministry of Commerce, the previously approved export quotas for 278 institutions have been halved.

The revised allocation takes effect immediately and will remain valid until December 31, 2026.

Under the decision, all exporters — ranging from major food processors to small and medium enterprises — will be allowed to export only half of their previously approved quotas.
