Bangladesh : Govt to procure 2 crore litres of refined palm olein

The government has approved the procurement of 20 million litres of refined palm olein through local tenders at an estimated cost of Tk368.90 crore. The edible oil, packed in two-litre PET bottles, will be supplied by Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills and Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries to support domestic market supply and price stability.

The government on Tuesday decided to procure two crore litres of refined palm olein under the local open tender method.

The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement approved the procurement proposal in a meeting held at the Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhur in the chair.

According to the proposal placed before the committee by the Ministry of Commerce, the edible oil will be supplied in two-litre PET bottles.

The total procurement cost has been estimated at Tk368.90 crore.

Under the proposal, Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Ltd will supply 10 million litres of refined palm olein, while Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited will supply the remaining 10 million litres.

Palm olein is the liquid fraction derived from separating (fractionating) palm oil, designed to remain liquid at room temperature.
