Bihar: Bhagalpur identifies 100 acres for proposed sugar mill in Pirpainti
Bihar’s Bhagalpur district has identified around 100 acres in Pirpainti for a proposed modern sugar mill. The project aims to expand sugarcane cultivation, provide farmers with a nearby market, improve incomes and generate employment, with further work awaiting administrative and technical approval from the state department.
Bhagalpur: The Bhagalpur district administration has identified around 100 acres of land in Pirpainti for a proposed modern sugar mill, a move aimed at expanding sugarcane cultivation, improving farmers’ incomes and creating local jobs, Jagran reported.
District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey said a detailed report on the selected land has been sent to Bihar’s Sugarcane Development Department. The project will move to the next stage after receiving administrative and technical approval from the department.
The state Sugarcane Development Department had been searching for suitable land in Bhagalpur for several months following directions from its headquarters. Officials assessed possible sites in Kahalgaon and Pirpainti before selecting the land in Pirpainti based on the required area and other conditions.
Pirpainti has the largest area under sugarcane cultivation among the main cane-growing blocks in the district. Sugarcane is also grown in Nathnagar and Sultanganj.
The agriculture and sugarcane departments are registering farmers to encourage greater sugarcane cultivation. Registered farmers will be eligible for government support such as improved planting material, farm equipment and financial assistance.
The proposed mill is expected to provide farmers in the region with a nearby market for their sugarcane. Direct procurement by the mill could reduce farmers’ dependence on distant buyers and help them avoid selling their produce at low prices.
Officials also expect the project to encourage more farmers to take up sugarcane cultivation and increase the area under the crop across the region.
The proposed industrial unit is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment and self-employment opportunities for thousands of people once it becomes operational.
“District administration has identified 100 acres of land in Pirpainti for setting up the sugar mill. A detailed report has been prepared and sent to the Sugarcane Development Department. Once departmental approval is received, further work will be started quickly,” Pandey said.
