Brazil plans to increase soybean crushing to 66 mln tons in 2027
Brazil plans to increase soybean crushing by 3.8% to 66 million tonnes in 2027, driven by demand for soybean meal and oil from livestock and biofuel sectors. Abiove forecasts higher meal and oil production, while soybean exports remain substantial, supported by rising processing activity and anticipated B16 biodiesel blending.
Brazil plans to increase domestic soybean crushing to 66 mln tons in 2027, compared with 63.6 mln tons in 2026, representing growth of approximately 3.8%. This is according to the first supply and demand forecasts for the soybean complex released by the Brazilian Vegetable Oil Industries Association (Abiove). The expansion in crushing is driven by growing domestic demand for soybean meal and oil, particularly from the livestock and biofuel sectors.
According to Abiove, soybean meal production is expected to reach 50.8 mln tons in 2027, up from 48.95 mln tons in 2026. Soybean oil output is projected at 13.27 mln tons, compared with 12.8 mln tons a year earlier. Meanwhile, soybean meal exports could increase to 26.3 mln tons, while soybean oil shipments to international markets are forecast at 1.9 mln tons.
Despite the expansion of domestic processing, Brazil is expected to maintain substantial soybean exports. Shipments are projected at 113 mln tons in 2027, compared with 113.9 mln tons in 2026. The country will therefore continue to combine large-scale exports of raw soybeans with increased production of value-added products. Expanding crushing capacity will help meet domestic demand while supporting soybean meal exports.
One of the key drivers of the processing industry’s growth remains demand for soybean oil used in biodiesel production. Brazil is expected to increase the mandatory biodiesel blending rate in diesel fuel to 16% (B16) in March 2027. According to Abiove, higher crushing volumes will help the industry prepare for additional demand from the biofuel sector while continuing to supply the food industry and export markets.
Recent figures also indicate stronger activity among Brazilian soybean processors. In August 2026, soybean crushing totaled 5.03 mln tons, down 1.8% from July but up 9% compared with August 2025, adjusted for sample coverage. During January–August, crushing reached 38.67 mln tons, an increase of 8.4% compared with the same period in 2025. This provides a foundation for further expansion of soybean meal and oil production in 2027.
