Cambodia rice exports surge
Cambodia exported 630,319 tonnes of milled rice in the first half of 2026, up 63% year-on-year, generating US$367.1 million. Strong demand from ASEAN, China and the EU, supported by regional trade agreements, drove the sharp increase in rice exports.
BERNAMA – Cambodia exported 630,319 tonnes of milled rice in the first half of 2026.
It marked a 63-per-cent increase from 387,070 tonnes during the same period last year, the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) reported yesterday.
The surge generated USD367.1 million in revenue from January to June this year, up 29.5 per cent year-on-year, reported a news agency.
According to the CRF, 60 local companies shipped milled rice to 64 countries and regions, adding that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, and the European Union remained the primary buyers.
Fragrant rice dominated the export market at 60 per cent, the CRF said, adding that white rice followed at 22 per cent, broken rice at 14 per cent, and parboiled and organic varieties making up the remaining four per cent.
Secretary of state and spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce Penn Sovicheat attributed the sharp growth to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement.
“Both trade pacts provide a robust foundation for exporting agricultural goods under highly favourable preferential tariffs,” he told a news agency.
