Chinese buyers eye long-term Myanmar maize imports under B2B arrangement

China’s Yunnan-based China-Kunming ASEAN Association plans long-term monthly imports of Myanmar maize through a B2B system. Myanmar aims to export over 1.3 million tonnes of maize in FY2026-27, with growing Chinese demand expected to create new opportunities for farmers and exporters.

According to the Myanmar Consulate-General in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the China-Kunming ASEAN Association has expressed interest in importing Myanmar-produced maize into China on a long-term monthly basis through a Business-to-Business (B2B) system.

As the association has requested information on current maize prices in Myanmar, the Consulate-General has notified local maize growers and exporters that those interested in exporting maize meeting China’s quality and standards requirements may contact the relevant officials for further arrangements.

According to forecasts by the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association, efforts are underway to export more than 1.3 million tonnes of Myanmar maize to international markets during the 2026-2027 financial year. Currently, Myanmar maize is primarily exported to Thailand, the Philippines, and India.

Entrepreneurs believe that the growing, long-term demand from the Chinese market could create a significant new market opportunity for Myanmar maize and corn farmers and exporters.
