COCERAL advanced the forecast for the wheat harvest in the EU and UK in 2026

COCERAL raised the 2026 soft wheat harvest forecast for the European Union and United Kingdom to 143.7 million tonnes, while cutting corn production estimates to 57.2 million tonnes due to reduced acreage, despite improved yields and generally favorable grain-growing conditions.

The Organization of European Grain Traders (COCERAL) has raised its soft wheat production forecast for the European Union and the United Kingdom this year, but sharply lowered its corn harvest forecast.

According to COCERAL, the gross soft wheat harvest will reach 143.7 million tonnes, down from 142.6 million tonnes forecast in March. Last year’s harvest broke the record of 150.8 million tonnes.

The recent heat wave in France, the EU’s largest grain producer, should not significantly impact yields, while the Balkan region expects another year of exceptional winter crops, according to COCERAL. In Germany, conditions for grain sowing are good.

The EU corn harvest forecast for 2026 has been lowered by 3 million tonnes to 57.2 million tonnes, below last year’s level of 57.8 million tonnes. Corn production in the UK is negligible.

The reduction in corn acreage is expected to outweigh the recovery in yields compared to last year’s drought. “Over the past nearly 10 years, corn acreage in the EU has declined by more than 15%,” Coceral stated, noting that farmers are disappointed with low yields.
