ESY 2025-26: Ethanol supply around 515 crore litres; SCJ in the supply lead

India’s ethanol supply under ESY 2025-26 reached around 515 crore litres by April-end, achieving 49% of contracted volumes. Sugarcane juice led molasses-based supplies with 79% contract fulfillment, while maize dominated grain-based ethanol production. Total grain-based supply stood at 333 crore litres, supported by strong seasonal ethanol output momentum.

As per reports, domestic ethanol supply in the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2025-26 reached around 515 crore litres as on April 30, 2026. Nearly 49% of the total contracted quantity of 1,059 crore litres has been achieved.

Among molasses feedstocks, sugarcane juice (SCJ) emerged as the largest contributor, supplying around 130 crore litres against a contracted quantity of around 164 crore litres, translating to 79% of the contracted quantity.

B-heavy molasses (BHM) supplied around 45 crore litres against a contracted 113 crore litres, and  C-heavy molasses (CHM) contributed around 7 crore litres, accounting for 51% of its contracted quantity of 14 crore litres.

The sector supplied around 182 crore litres against a contracted 291 crore litres.

Ethanol supplies by grain-based distilleries

Maize remained the largest contributor, supplying about 182 crore litres against a contracted 479 crore litres. Surplus food grains (SFG) supplied around 125 crore litres against 233 crore litres contracted, while damaged food grains (DFG) contributed around 26 crore litres.

The total grain-based ethanol supply stood at around 333 crore litres against contracted quantities of 767 crore litres.

The monthly supplies from SCJ remained robust throughout the crushing season, peaking at around 31.85 crore litres in January 2026, then maintained strong momentum through April.
