Good increase in sugarcane and sugar production expected in Thailand

Thailand’s strong sugarcane production forecast could boost exports and reinforce its global position. However, environmental concerns over cane burning persist, with the government imposing stricter regulations. Falling global sugar prices, driven by India’s increased exports and weaker demand, may challenge Thailand’s market share, but its efficient supply chain and strategic policies could help maintain competitiveness.

iGrain India – It sounds like Thailand’s sugarcane and sugar production is on track for a promising season, thanks to favorable weather conditions.

If the forecasts hold true, the country’s sugar output could increase significantly, which would boost exportable stock and strengthen Thailand’s position as the second-largest exporter of sugar globally.

However, there’s a bit of a double-edged sword here. While more sugarcane and sugar production is good for the economy, the environmental concerns related to the burning of sugarcane during harvesting are still an issue.

It’s good to see that the government is taking steps to manage this with limits and even shutting down mills that are overusing this method.

Additionally, the dip in global sugar prices due to lower demand and India’s increased sugar exports might impact Thailand’s sugar industry, especially since they rely heavily on raw sugar exports.

How do you think this will affect the global sugar market in the coming months? Will Thailand be able to maintain its position despite the challenges?
