Line minister Tomasi Tunabuna has dismissed concerns over an alleged sugar shortage assuring the public that Fiji’s sugar supply remains stable.
Mr Tunabuna said there were no immediate concerns over sugar supplies, noting that sugar production and distribution were underway.
Addressing questions about contingency plans should stocks run low, Mr Tunabuna said supermarkets could buy sugar directly from the storage facility in Lautoka, ensuring products can be restocked.
He confirmed that Fiji had steady supply of sugar and consumers would to access despite allegations of empty supermarket shelves in Navua.
The minister’s comments come amid growing public concern over sugar availability in parts of the country, although no official shortage has been confirmed.
