Jind, Haryana: The Sugar Mill Committee of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has demanded the starting of a sugar mill by November 28. The members of the committee met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday during the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti event and submitted a memorandum in this regard. The Chief Minister assured the farmers of appropriate action, reported Amar Ujala.
BKU’s national vice-president Ramphal Kandela, state spokesperson Chhajjuram Kandela, vice-president Rammehar Rajpura Bhain, Sugar Mill Committee president Ajmer Lohan, and other members, including Shamsher, Rajendra, Satish, Virendra, and Subhash, handed over the memorandum.
The farmers expressed concerns that while the sugar mill management indicated a start date after December 10, they expect operations to begin by November 28. They highlighted that mills in Uttar Pradesh and other regions have already started, and any delay in Jind would harm them financially.
Two days earlier, the farmers had also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. The Chief Minister assured them that their concerns would be addressed and that the sugar mill would be operational on time to avoid losses for farmers .
