Hry to produce 90L MT wheat this year: Min

Chandigarh: Haryana agriculture minister J P Dalal said Thursday that the state could produce up to 90 lakh metric tones of wheat this year and so far, 17.85 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has arrived, of which 13.97 lakh metric tone has been procured by the government. Similarly, 1.12 crore metric tone mustard has arrived, of which 95,847 metric tone has been procured.

The minister said the compensation for crop loss due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm would be provided to the farmers in May.

“The state government would give timely compensation to the farmers in a transparent manner. State has already instructed the officers to conduct girdawari. The government stands with the farmers and it will be ensured that they do not face any kind of problem,” he added.

Dalal said there was lustre loss in wheat crop due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms and more than 6% wheat grains were shrivelled and broken. He said the state had requested the Centre to withdraw the value cut on lustre loss or shrivelled and broken grains in Rabi crops, especially wheat crop.
The minister said that complaints of irregularities in weights in some mandis have come to his notice, and orders have been given to take strict action in this regard.
