India’s Restrictions on sugar exports may be relaxed soon: Media report
The government is likely to ease restrictions on sugar exports, with approval expected for 10 lakh tonnes. In a likely relief to sugar mills, the government may soon relax restrictions on sugar exports.
According to the ET Now, sources say that restrictions on sugar exports may soon be relaxed. Approval for the export of 10 lakh tonnes of sugar is likely.
The industry has been demanding the export of surplus sugar, and a decision on this is expected to be announced soon, media report further added.
Currently, the government has imposed restrictions on sugar exports.
Earlier, the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) appealed to the government to allow the export of sugar during the ongoing season.
ISMA had stated that the export of sugar in the current season would not only guarantee a comfortable stock for domestic consumption and sustain the Ethanol Blending Program (EBP) but also contribute to maintaining the financial liquidity of sugar mills, facilitating timely payments to farmers.
