IPL, Jain Irrigation partner to expand drip irrigation in Gujarat’s sugarcane sector

Indian Potash Limited and Jain Irrigation Systems partnered to promote sustainable sugarcane cultivation in Gujarat through drip irrigation, fertigation, farmer training and field demonstrations. The initiative aims to improve water-use efficiency, boost yields, reduce cultivation costs, enhance farmer incomes, and support India’s sugar and biofuel sectors.

New Delhi: Indian Potash Limited (IPL) and Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL) have entered into a partnership to promote scientific and sustainable sugarcane cultivation in Gujarat, with the two companies aiming to expand the use of drip irrigation and modern farming practices to improve productivity, conserve water, and raise farmers’ incomes.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly promote technology-driven sugarcane cultivation across the state. The collaboration will include the survey, design, supply, and installation of drip irrigation systems, along with farmer training, capacity building, and field demonstrations to encourage the adoption of improved cultivation practices, IPL said in a statement on Friday, The Hindu Businessline reported.

Under the agreement, IPL and JISL will work together to promote efficient irrigation and fertigation technologies, while demonstrating precision input management, modern irrigation solutions, and improved agronomic practices for sustainable sugarcane cultivation.

The partnership also includes organising farmer awareness programmes, workshops, and field demonstrations to help growers adopt new technologies and improve water-use efficiency and sugarcane productivity.

The companies will facilitate access to credit and grant support for eligible farmers to install micro irrigation systems. According to the statement, the initiative is expected to improve crop quality, increase yields, and enhance farm incomes.

IPL, which operates sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Odisha, and JISL, a leading provider of drip and micro irrigation technologies, said the collaboration reflects their shared commitment to equipping sugarcane farmers with practical technologies that boost productivity while conserving water resources and supporting sustainable agricultural development in Gujarat.

“This partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of drip irrigation in sugarcane, improving water-use efficiency, enhancing crop productivity, reducing cultivation costs, increasing farmers’ incomes, and promoting sustainable growth of India’s sugar and biofuel sectors,” said Girdhar Loh, State Head of JISL in Gujarat.
