Maharashtra: 200 sugar mills paid 100 per cent FRP in 2023-24 season

In the 2023-24 sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra, 200 out of 208 sugar mills have fully settled their Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) dues to farmers, totaling Rs 36,699 crore. Seven mills have cleared between 80% and 99.99%, while one mill has settled between 0% and 60%. Despite this, Rs 54 crore remains unpaid. The government has taken action against 11 mills under the revenue and recovery certificate (RRC). Some mills have even paid farmers more than the FRP this season.

In the 2023-24 season, sugar mills in Maharashtra have performed better in terms of paying the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) to sugarcane farmers.

According to data by the sugar commissionerate, out of the 208 sugar mills involved in the 2023-24 season’s cane crushing operations, 200 mills have settled 100% of their cane dues as of September 30, 2024. Another seven mills have cleared between 80% and 99.99% of the outstanding dues, while one mill has paid FRP ranging from 0% to 60%.

Sugar mills in the state have settled Rs 36,699 crore [Actual FRP paid including H&T] (99.85 per cent) out of the total outstanding dues owed to cane farmers. However, pending amount of Rs 54 crore is yet to be paid to farmers.

The government has taken action against 11 sugar mills under the revenue and recovery certificate (RRC) in 2023-24 season.

In the sugar season 2023-24, some sugar mills have paid sugarcane bills higher than FRP.
