Maharashtra : 48 sugar mills yet to clear Rs 298 crore FRP dues; recovery drive underway

Sugar mills in Maharashtra have paid 99.26% of the ₹40,446 crore FRP due for the 2025–26 crushing season, leaving ₹298 crore unpaid by 48 factories. The Sugar Commissionerate has initiated recovery proceedings against defaulting mills, while three factories cleared dues following enforcement action.

Pune: Sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra are yet to receive Rs 298 crore in Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) dues, with 48 sugar factories still pending payments despite the completion of the 2025-26 crushing season.

According to the Sugar Commissionerate’s report as of June 30, 2026, 162 of the 210 sugar factories that participated in the season have cleared 100% of their FRP dues. Overall, the state’s sugar mills have paid 99.26% of the amount payable to farmers.

During the 2025-26 season, sugar mills in the state crushed 10.45 LMT of sugarcane. The total FRP payable to farmers, including harvesting and transportation charges, was Rs 40,446 crore. Sugar mills have so far deposited Rs 40,148 crore into the bank accounts of sugarcane growers, leaving Rs 298 crore outstanding.

The Sugar Commissionerate said it is pursuing recovery of the pending dues from the defaulting factories.

In a bid to recover the outstanding payments, the Commissionerate initiated Revenue Recovery Certificate (RRC) proceedings against 10 sugar factories that failed to pay FRP within the stipulated period.

The action was taken against Gokul Sugars, Bhima Cooperative Sugar Factory, Shri Sant Kumsadas Cooperative Sugar Factory and Kamalabhavani Global Corpo. Limited in Solapur district; Bhimashankar Sugar Mills Limited and Shri Vitthalsai Cooperative Sugar Factory in Dharashiv district; Kedareshwar Cooperative Sugar Factory in Ahilyanagar district; S.J. Sugar Distillery and Ashtalakshmi Sugar Ethanol in Nashik district; and Sachin Ghayal Sugars in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

Following the action, Kamalabhavani Global Corpo. Limited, Bhimashankar Sugar Mills Limited and Kedareshwar Cooperative Sugar Factory cleared all pending dues to sugarcane farmers.

In another development, the properties of Sant Eknath-Sachin Ghayal Sugar Private Limited were auctioned for Rs 8.09 crore after the company failed to pay Rs 19.49 crore in outstanding FRP dues to farmers.
