MSP for Tamilnadu sugarcane: EPS takes a dig at DMK govt
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticized Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK government and Chief Minister MK Stalin for failing to fulfill their promise of increasing the sugarcane minimum support price (MSP) to ₹4,000 per quintal. He expressed disappointment over the delay in delivering a promised ₹215 per tonne incentive for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. As festivals approach, Palaniswami urged the government to provide the necessary funds, highlighting the financial strain sugarcane farmers face due to unfulfilled pledges.
Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister MK Stalin and the ruling DMK government, accusing them of failing to honor their commitment to enhance the minimum support price (MSP) for sugarcane to Rs 4,000 per quintal.
In a statement on social media, Palaniswami expressed his disappointment, highlighting that the DMK has been in power for 41 months but has yet to fulfill its electoral promises to sugarcane farmers. He pointed out that the Agriculture Minister had previously assured that the government would provide a special incentive of Rs 215 per tonne of sugarcane for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, but this promise has not been realized.
“The DMK government has failed to take any action to implement this incentive,” Palaniswami asserted. “With only a few days left until the festival, it is clear that the government is not serious about supporting our farmers.” He emphasized the urgent need for the government to release the necessary funds to ensure that sugarcane growers receive the promised incentive, allowing them to celebrate the upcoming festival with dignity.
Palaniswami’s remarks reflect growing frustration among the agricultural community, particularly sugarcane farmers who have been relying on government support to sustain their livelihoods. The AIADMK leader’s call for immediate action comes amid increasing concerns over the financial strain faced by farmers in the state.
