ONGC undertaken pre-feasibility study to set up green hydrogen plant in Mangaluru: Suresh Gopi
ONGC is considering establishing a green hydrogen plant in Mangaluru to support MRPL’s energy needs, though no investment decision has been finalized. Union Minister Suresh Gopi confirmed this in the Lok Sabha. The initiative aligns with ONGC’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2038, leveraging the National Green Hydrogen Mission to reduce CO₂ emissions significantly.
Mangaluru: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) is exploring the possibility of setting up a green hydrogen plant in Mangaluru to meet the energy needs of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL). This was confirmed by Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, in response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. However, he noted that no investment decision has been made yet regarding the green hydrogen plant.
ONGC is working to meet its target of becoming net zero by 2038 and, for this purpose, is engaging in several activities, including green hydrogen projects. Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the production of green hydrogen can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 10 kg per kilogram of hydrogen produced compared with the production of grey hydrogen.
