Pakistan receives 13 bids for 185,000MT wheat import
Pakistan received 13 bids for importing 185,000 tonnes of wheat, with Bunge SA offering the lowest evaluated price at $339.36 per tonne CFR Karachi and $340.36 CFR Gwadar. The import follows weak government procurement despite 29.6 million tonnes of wheat production in FY2025-26.
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has received 13 bids for the import of 185,000 metric tons of wheat, with Swiss trader Bunge SA emerging as the lowest evaluated bidder. In response to international tender for the import of 185,000MT (+/- 10% MOLSO) wheat, floated by Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), the TCP has received 13 bids, with Swiss trader Bunge SA emerging as the lowest evaluated bidder.
According to the Evaluation Report issued by TCP, out of 13 bids received, 12 were found technically and financially responsive. One bidder – Mercury M.E. DMCC – was declared non-responsive due to short of export experience. As per the evaluation, Bunge SA, Switzerland quoted the lowest price at $339.36 per MT CFR Karachi and $340.36 per MT CFR Gwadar.
Other responsive bids include Olam Global Agri Pte Ltd $341.88, AMS Ameropa Marketing and Sales AG $343.47, Agrocrop International PTE LTD $343.74, CHS Inc. $345.00, Mera Enterprises DMCC $346.19, Louis Dreyfus Company Suisse S.A $346.50, Falconbridge Resources FZ-LLC $347.49, Al Ghurair Resources International LLC $349.00, Sial Commodities PTE Ltd $350.53, Soufflet Negoce by Invivo $354.82 and Aston Agro-Industrial SA $354.83. The lowest evaluated bidder is M/s. Bunge SA, Switzerland, both for CFR Karachi and CFR Gwadar. The procurement was made under Rule-21(A) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2004 – Mechanism for Import of Commodities to meet the demand-supply gap.
It is worth noting that despite a near-bumper wheat crop this season, weak procurement has prompted the government to import wheat. Last week, Trading Corporation of Pakistan had floated an international tender for the purchase of 185,000 metric tons of wheat, with bids invited till September 28. Almost 29.6 million tons wheat was produced during FY2025-26, however, due the weak procurement, the flour prices hit up to Rs150/kg in parts of Pakistan. The federal government has initiated measures for the import of wheat to boost the stocks.
